Tax registration requirements

In the coming months, OUP will no longer be able to accept purchases of digital products from customers that do not hold a local tax registration. If you are a business customer of OUP and we do not currently hold a tax registration reference for you, you will have received a letter requesting that you provide one.

Once this change takes place, our systems will no longer allow purchases from customers without a tax registration in your region.

As a clarification of our existing tax obligations, in order to continue ordering directly with OUP, you will need to provide us with a valid local tax registration number.  We will load your number to our systems, which will allow you to continue ordering as usual.

You will need to let OUP know if your business does not hold a tax registration number due to an exemption (e.g. for educational institutions) in your region. We will further advise you on how to ensure uninterrupted purchasing of OUP digital products and services.

Q&A’s

Which sales are not being accepted?

We will no longer be able to make direct to consumer sales to individual customers who are not commercial entities in the affected countries.

What about sales to business customers?

Sales to companies with the appropriate tax reference number or exemption will continue as normal.

What about print products?

The sale of physical goods will not be impacted by the changes. The only exception to this will be books with a digital element (such as a token). These are considered to be digital products so the same limitations will apply.
